Boring in Reality With Comfort in Practicality

If you were to go and test drive a 2016 Honda CR-V EX without any prior knowledge, you would look at that car and say “whoa, despite that massive backend, that thing looks pretty sporty!” However once you have officially climbed into the vehicle, you would be more so like a kid on Christmas who opens up their gifts with great enthusiasm only to discover socks and a sweater from the back of Uncle Dale’s closet.

That claim might be a tad extreme but hear me out for a second. Yes, I know it’s made by Honda and yes, it really isn’t that bad of a car however that doesn’t mean that it isn’t boring as all get out! It’s so boring that the owner handed me the keys and said, “you probably wont like this.”

The truth of the matter though is that I actually do like it but more so from a dad’s perspective and less from my inner bachelor who enjoys fast and flashy. The CR-V really is a decent people mover, it’s not the greatest off road vehicle but if you were to use it as the “family van” if you will, you could take comfort in the long list of safety features. On top of that it felt rather comfortable with a fair amount of elbow room making those long family road trips more comfortable. Still along the lines of comfort, the seats are actually padded just well enough that those road trips won’t break the back!
back2One of the other surprising things that I liked about this car is that it’s not necessarily quick however it isn’t all that slow. What I’m saying is that deep down I really like fast cars, I love them actually but if I’m driving with my family, being fast isn’t always being safe. That being said, the Cr-V goes from 0-60 in almost 10 seconds and in a straightaway it can hit a quarter mile in about 17 seconds if the pedal is all the way down. This is pretty average for a car of this size, so quick enough to get you guys where you need to go but slow enough to get everyone there in one piece.

Looking at the vehicle’s mechanical appeal, the CR-V comes with a 2.4L, 4 cylinder engine that creates about 185 horse power which is a little more than some of its competitors. As for the transmission, it follows the example of many other newer cars by utilizing a CVT which means you won’t wake the baby when you accelerate to pass that semi.

All in all this car is very much so a Nerf ball in terms of safety but when you’re transporting the ones you care about, safety doesn’t sound that bad.
